Heimlich Heroes™ Year-End Review

What a year! We have worked hard to bring you more training options, lower costs, and a case study on program retention. Take a look at all we’ve accomplished this year:

Numbers Served

In total, we served more than 38,000 people in 2017! Our mission is to train as many individuals as possible in the Heimlich Maneuver®. Each year we focus on strategic planning and advertising to place our program in more youth organizations. Adding in our 2017 participants brings our grand total to more than 90,000 people trained in the Heimlich Maneuver!

This year we trained more than 17,000 participants in schools; more than 4,000 Girl Scouts and almost 4,500 Boys and Girls Clubs members. Thank you to our loyal leaders for bringing our program to your organizations!

Lives Saved

The Heimlich Heroes team is dedicated to saving lives with this simple maneuver. If our program was responsible for saving just one life we’ve done our duty! But? thanks to our program, at least four lives have been saved!

This year Emilee Wertz became familiar with the maneuver when she helped her mom prepare to train her Brownie troop. Shortly after learning the maneuver she saved a life while working in a restaurant! Way to go, Emilee!

Teen and Adult Training Program

This year we added another training option to our list of available programs! We now offer Heimlich Heroes for Kids (grades 1-3, and 4-7) in English and Spanish AND Heimlich Heroes for Teens and Adults (grades 8 - adult). Our motto is ‘anyone can save a life!’ and to keep true to our mission we knew we had to expand our kids geared program to teens and adults.

Our teen and adult program has a guided note-taking tool and a training video. The training video should only be used for those in grade 8 and above, as it contains content and pacing consistent with adult level learning.

Heimlich Heroes Case Study on Retention

In 2016 we spent time collecting data from six participating schools. The data we collected was taken before the Heimlich Heroes training, one-week post training, and three-months post training. From this data we were able to analyze the retention of our training materials at each stage.

We are happy to present our completed case study to you! You can read it here.

Keeping Costs Low

In order to reach as many people as possible we work hard to keep the program cost low. This year we looked into our storage and packaging methods and consolidated materials to keep costs low. We pride ourselves on having our paper materials free to users and want to keep it that way!

Year-End Giving

One way we keep our costs low is by receiving donations from users and supporters like you! Your donations help us provide training materials for our participants. Just $14 helps provide materials for 30 kids! A donation in ANY amount truly makes a difference!

As we approach the end of 2017 please consider giving to our life-saving organization. Donate now!
